Lake City, SC – The junior varsity boys soccer team captured their second straight win of the season with a tight 3-2 victory over South Florence, Thursday night. The panthers played a highly contested match but managed to hold off a late charge by the bruins to win their first home game of the year.

Seventh grader Fermen Lopez, a first year player to the team, scored the opening goal of the match. It was quickly followed with another score by eighth grader and captain Irvin Fajardo. South Florence responded quickly, scoring two goals before the first half concluded.

The second half appeared to be a stalemate until Fajardo broke a run fifteen minutes into the half and sent a beautiful ball just out of the goalie’s reach. Eighth grader and co-captain Chandler Gause held the bruins scoreless throughout the second half, recording a number of impressive saves to secure the victory.

The junior varsity team resumes play Tuesday, February 28th at Georgetown. The match is slated to begin at 5:30. The varsity boys will return to action tonight at home against Crestwood. Their match will begin at 6:00.
