Florence, SC – Going into this cross country season, junior Damien Lee had one goal on his mind: to set a new school record in the 5k. He did just that Saturday morning at the Wilson Invitational, lowering the record 35 seconds to 19:11.

After the race, Lee said, “I worked really hard all summer to get to this point. I am really happy about my race today.”

Not to be outdone, five of his six teammates also posted season best times in Florence. Sophomore Gerardo Corea (20:35) finished second on the team. He was followed by senior Daronde Brown in a time of 21:56. Fellow seniors Davion Graham (22:30) and Daniel Malasky (22:31) rounded out the Panther’s top five, resulting in the fastest team time in school history.

Junior Desmond Lee (25:08) and freshman newcomer Chandler Gause (25:12) also ran season best times for the varsity squad.

The Lady Panthers also had a successful day despite missing some key contributors. Senior Joycelyn Epps posted a season best time of 26:30. She was followed by Senior Jasmine Bradley (30:00) and sophomore newcomer Ashley Quintero-Cabrera (32:01).

Senior Tyshara Elmore dropped over two and a half minutes off her season best time to come in at 32:04. Juniors Shamaya Taylor (34:24) and Nicole Hammond (34:25) rounded out the Lady Panther’s effort.
