The Lake City Panthers got a much needed 57-51 Region VI-3A win in overtime Friday over Loris.
The Panthers and Lions traded baskets for much of the first period, but Lake City was ab le to build a seven-point in the second period on three-point shots by Bill Hanna and Raekwon Hailey. Loris was able to narrow the Panthers’ lead to 26-23 going into halftime.
Lake City doubled its lead to six points on its opening possession of the third quarter when Tyshawn Baines drained a three-pointer from the wing. But, with 19 seconds in the quarter, Loris scored to take a four-point lead.
Hanna sank a three-point shot early in the fourth quarter to pull Lake City to within a point of the lead and Tyrek Epps’s layup on an assist from Baines with 3:26 left tied the game 43-43. The Panthers took a 46-45 lead with 1:48 left on another three-pointer by Hanna. Loris then scored on a free throw to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Jawuan McDowell started the scoring for Lake City in the extra period with a two-point basket, and over the next minute Hanna added five more points on a pair of layups and a free throw to give the Panthers a53-46 lead. Eric Kennedy added three points in overtime to help Lake City seal the win.
Hanna scored a game-high 18 points and Baines added nine.
Lake City will play its final two games of the regular season Monday at home against Aynor and at Georgetown Wednesday.
