The Lake City Panthers’ offense exploded for 48 second-half points Monday and rolled to a 79-32 win over Aynor to remain in a tie for second place in Region VI-3A.
Led by Jamie Jones with 12 points and Bill Hanna with 10, the Panthers had 15 players to score at least one point.
Hanna gave Lake City a 9-0 start with a three-pointer and a layup following a steal and the Panthers quickly built a double-digit lead. Hanna and TyQuavious Smith both buried three-pointers in a span of 24 seconds, and Smith added a layup 31 seconds before intermission to give the Panthers a 31-19 lead.
Lake City outscored Aynor 27-8 in the third period, led by a basket plus one both by Jones and Tyrek Epps, who added a three-pointer with 4:14 left in the period to give the Panthers a 25-point advantage. Smith then drilled another three-pointer with three seconds left in the quarter to give Lake City a 58-27 lead.
The Panthers then outscored Aynor 21-5 in the final period to earn the win.
Lake City will travel to Georgetown Wednesday to close out the regular season. With Dillon in first place in the region and Lake City, Waccamaw and Loris tied for second, Wednesday’s region games will determine playoff seeds.
