The Lake City Varsity Girls Soccer team qualified for the state playoffs, concluding their regular season Thursday night in a hard-fought battle with crosstown rival, Wilson.
The Lady Panthers finished third in the region, securing three region wins on the year and six wins overall.
“[Junior Varsity Coach] Lindsey New and I told the girls we had high expectations for this season,” Varsity Head Coach Kristal Martinez remarked. “We set a goal to go to the playoffs, and we are happy to announce that we have achieved that goal.”
Having spent the last couple years in rebuilding mode, Martinez is excited to see what her squad can do in the playoffs as well as in seasons to come.
“This was a season of growth for our team. What is more exciting is that this is only the beginning. I foresee the Lake City Girls Soccer Program being a force to reckon with in the future,” Martinez said.
The Lady Panthers will travel to Hanahan to face off against Bishop England Monday evening for the first round of the playoffs. They game is slated to start at 7 p.m.
