The Lake City baseball program’s first-ever B-Team (middle school) opened their season Saturday with a doubleheader against Lamar High School’s JV squad.
Showing some nerves and still adjusting to the dimensions and equipment of high school baseball, the Panthers dropped the opener 1-11.
However, those nerves subsided and the Panthers were able to bounce back in game two to claim the program’s initial victory with a 10-5 effort.
7th grader Breyon Burgess picked up the win on the mound with relief support from fellow 7th graders Daniel Thomy, Qualek Washington, and Jase McKnight.
Lake City used aggressive baserunning and capitalized on some early Lamar pitching struggles to jump out to an 8-0 lead after 3 innings. The Panthers picked up RBI hits from 7th graders Octavian McKnight, Keith Fulmore, Jase McKnight, Will Yates, Ethan Feagin, and 8th grader Teondre Epps.
The B-Team Panthers will travel to Hannah-Pamplico next Saturday for a noon doubleheader.
