Marion, SC – The Panther Cross Country teams posted impressive performances Tuesday evening at a seven team meet at Marion High School. Facing off with most of the region present, the boys and girls put together their strongest performances of the season.
Junior Irvin Fajardo continued his record breaking season with an overall second place finish in a time of 19:11. Junior Jerrion Flowers came in at seventh with a time of 20:52.
Juniors Chandler Gause and Austin Shake both crossed the tape at 23:17. They were followed by senior Matthew Leiter (24:02) and junior Caleb Wallace, who rounded out the boys’ effort in a time of 25:47.
The boys narrowly missed out on winning the meet, finishing 1 point behind Aynor for a second place finish.
The Lady Panthers finished third out of 7 teams. They were led by Junior Kara Whitten, whose time of 28:11 moved her up to fourth place on the all-time Lake City performance list. Junior Haley Hardway ran the best race of her life, dropping nearly two full minutes off of her time to finish second on the team (32:53).
Seventh Grader Lyla Bingham posted another gritty performance, fighting through an injury to finish in 33:34.
Junior Sarah Leiter came in at a season best time of 35:36. Junior Ava Bingham rounded out the top 5 in a personal best time of 35:40.
Both Panther squads will return to action Saturday morning at the Darlington Carnival, located at Darlington Middle School.
