Camden, SC – The boys and girls cross country teams finished 2nd at the 6-3A Region Championship Tuesday evening. The boys narrowly missed a region title, falling to Camden by a score of 28-31. The Lady Panthers placed 2nd as well, finishing with a teams core of 50 to Camden’s 15.
Sophomore Demaray Skipper (19:00) led the Panthers’ charge, placing 1st overall and being named the Region Runner of the Year. Senior Irvin Fajardo (19:04) placed a close 2nd, and senior Jerrion Flowers (20:14) placed 5th. All three runners were named to the all-region team.
Seniors Chandler Gause (21:53) and Caleb Wallace (22:52) both ran season best times. Wallace’s effort was a full minute better than his previous best as he filled in at the five spot.
The Lady Panthers also had a number of impressive season best times. Junior Juliana Itehua (29:30) led the Lady Panthers with a 9th place finish. Senior Haley Hardway came in next, posting a time of 30:38.
Senior Sarah Leiter (30:56) was our next finisher, followed by a season best performance of 31:35 by eighth grader Lyla Bingham. Makayla Sheppard (34:28) finished 12th with her best time of the year to close out the Panthers’ effort.
The Lady Panthers’ season has concluded, and the boys await the results of the ranking committee to determine if they made the cut for the lower state qualifier. The committee will announce its decision Sunday evening.
